Governmental support for electric cars: what is it actually?
This year's state support for electric cars can be used for up to 16 vehicles. A non-repayable amount between 2.8 million HUF and 4 million HUF can be obtained, but only for fully electric vehicles that are first registered in Hungary. The application can be submitted for both purchased and leased cars.
The support is divided between the Budapest and rural regions: in a ratio of 10.8 billion and 19.2 billion HUF. The amount of support that can be requested depends on the type of our vehicle, the gross capacity of its battery, and its net purchase price. The maximum price limit is 25 million HUF for vans and light trucks, while for passenger cars, it is 20 million HUF. If the total cost of the project exceeds the portion beyond the support, we must finance it from our own resources. Individuals cannot apply; only sole proprietors and economic organizations can.
How long is the budget expected to last?
At the time of writing this article, more than 2800 applications have been submitted, of which more than 400 have received support so far. The average amount applied for daily is close to 80 million forints. This means 33 applications per day. If the momentum remains roughly the same, the depletion of the tender's budget is expected by mid to late November 2024. So if you want to take your share of the 30 billion framework by then, it's worth hurrying!
