Solar inverter protection
More and more home solar system owners complain about inverters shutting down due to the local grid exceeding the maximum voltage of 253 V resulting in significant loss in production. Many don't even know they are affected by this problem, as not everyone checks their inverter's log. Until the power utility company upgrades, we can improve the situation ourselves, indoors, tuning the higher consumers, such as electric vehicle charging, to the solar production.
This is automated by the Voltie charger's "Solar production protection" feature, which is useful when we don't drive enough to continuously and efficiently charge our car during sunny hours.
The unique solution of the Voltie charger helps to charge the electric car with the lowest possible power for the longest possible time, balancing the threshold when the grid voltage has not yet reached a critical value.
The function can be fine tuned to the local electric network as the user can set three voltage levels:
Highest value above which the charging automatically starts and also the charging current gets slowly increased
Middle value under which the charging current gets gradually decreased
Lowest value under which the charging completely stops
Adjustable delay times can also be set separately for increasing and decreasing the charging current, so that the system does not respond immediately to sudden momentary voltage fluctuations, thus preventing frequent interruptions and restarts of charging.
The function can be disabled with a single click in case we need rapid charging or overnight charging.
