Electric car prices: manufacturers are striving for accessible solutions.

May 12, 2025

In recent years, the prices of electric cars have increasingly moved towards being more accessible, prompting more people to consider switching from their traditional vehicles. It is anticipated that with the decrease in battery costs, the principle of economies of scale (the phenomenon where the more we produce of a product, the lower the cost per unit) and the intensification of market competition, prices will show a declining trend.

Thus, it is becoming increasingly common for these environmentally friendly means of transport to be made available to broader layers of society. Meanwhile, let's not forget that the cost of cars does not end with the purchase. Indeed, maintenance also costs money. The cost of charging and maintaining an electric car is much cheaper than that of traditional vehicles.

New electric cars: the most popular models and their prices

The prices of electric cars vary widely. They greatly depend on the brand, performance, and selected extras. Here are some popular basic types and their approximate prices:

  • Nissan Leaf: One of the best-selling electric cars in the world, which may offer good value for money. The price of the base model starts at around 10 million forints.

  • Renault Zoe: A popular choice due to its compact size and design optimized for urban use. Its starting price is approximately 14 million forints.

  • Tesla Model 3: The most affordable model from Tesla, representing the premium category, offering high performance and long range. The price of the basic configuration starts at around 17 million forints.

  • Volkswagen ID.3: The German manufacturer’s first fully electric car, which entered the market with a modern design and competitive price. Its base price is approximately 17 million forints.

Used electric cars: more favorable prices, increasing availability

We cannot overlook the used car market, as there are increasingly more affordable electric cars available here as well. Let's take a look at a few of them:

  • Peugeot iOn: A small-sized city car that is perfect for short-distance travel. Available used for around 2 million forints.

  • BMW i3: A premium compact car with innovative design and good performance. Available used from 6-7 million forints.

  • Hyundai Ioniq Electric: A family car that holds its own, with spacious interior and favorable fuel consumption. Available used for around 8 million forints.

  • Tesla Model 3: Available used from 7-8 million forints.

Charging costs: electric car prices pay off quickly

There are many reasons why people may choose electric cars, but probably most decide to do so because of lower operating costs. There are many tips on how to get the cheapest charging. For example, try to charge the vehicle at home if possible, as it costs more at public charging stations.

But one thing is for sure, the price of electricity is lower than that of conventional fuels, so the costs invested in the purchase can pay off in the long run. When charging at home, costs are even more favorable, and charging with Voltie chargers is safe. At public charging stations, you may encounter variable fees, but overall, operating electric cars is more economical compared to conventional vehicles.

With the expected decrease in electric car prices and favorable offers available in the used market, more and more people may choose this environmentally friendly form of transportation. The continuously rising fuel prices are pushing even more people to switch to electric cars.
